In the morning we planned to visit the Abbe Museum. It took less time to find parking and walk there than anticipated, so we wandered around the cemetery across the street. As you can tell, most of the women are identified by their relationship to men- poor Maria doesn't even have a last name. And poor Lucretia, and her stone, met their respective demises in much the same way. Once we finished marveling at the stone carvings, we headed to the museum.
The Abbe Museum shares the history and culture of the Wabanaki Nations, the indigenous people of the region. They do this with the input of the four tribes that make up the Wabanki Nations. The exhibits include both historical crafts of the nations as well as the work of contemporary members of the tribal communities that use the same materials and techniques. It's a great museum.
