Fire Station!

On Saturday the Southbury fire station had an open house. We had a great time checking out all of the rescue equipment including Ruby the bloodhound. Ethan even got to spray the fire hose.

Saturday

Saturday after Ethan's soccer practice he and I went to the earth day celebration in Woodbury. We had a good time. There was a petting zoo and we got to plant a seed (Ethan chose a pumpkin) and make a maraca.We enjoyed lunch at the Caseus Cheese Truck, chocolate ice cream for dessert (and picked up a bag of kettle corn for later). We listened to some live music, and played at the Hollow Park playground- the one with the "curvy slide." After that, we came home and went for a ride with James during which Ethan borrowed my phone to make some self portraits.

After the park, we stopped at the store to pick up a few things. Ethan asked to use the camera, this is what he came up with.

Park!

 Yesterday was quite a contrast from Tuesday. The sun was out and it wasn't like February. So, after having our monthly lunch date at Friendly's and swimming practice, we went to the park so Ethan could ride his big wheel and play for a bit. We did some observations on the path through the woods as well. We saw a pair of cardinals, bumblebees, centipedes, worms, flowers, and lots of little bugs.

Worms!

It seems that somehow our nature class brings out the worst in mother nature. It was freezing cold again, but we still managed to find a few wriggly worms on our hunt. We also made a great worm craft.

Zoo again!

On Sunday we had to evacuate for another open house. We went to put some things in storage which is halfway to the zoo, so we decided to go the rest of the way. We didn't stay very long as it was nearly lunch time and it wasn't very warm, but we saw the things Ethan and I missed on Tuesday. He decided to be a tour guide in the greenhouse.

Farmer Minor

Here are a few more of the photos that come courtesy of the classroom mothers at Ethan's school. On April 10th, they had a visit from Farmer Minor and his pigs. Ethan told us all about it, he's still talking about it. As you can see, he REALLY liked the pig, named Daisy. He told us that the pig lives in the house, not the barn and that it sleeps in Farmer Minor's bed and uses his shower. That's one pampered pig.

Ice Cream

We spent Saturday morning cleaning so we decided to do something fun in the afternoon. We tried taking Ethan to see the animal farm in Woodbury, but they weren't open yet. The sign said "Opening in Spring." Hmmm... Don't they know it's spring? So we went to Hollow Park instead and played for as long as we could stand the cold. Then we went to get ice cream, but we had to eat it in the car with our coats on. We had peanut butter cup.

Pig

Every March the theme for kindergarten at Ethan's school is pigs! They do an art project that takes several weeks to make and paint a papier mache pig. The pigs remain on display for the incoming kindergarten orientation. This is Ethan's pig. The classroom mothers were kind enough to share pictures from the creation of the pigs so we have a few of those to share too.

Carousel Museum

Today Ethan and I went to check out the New England Carousel Museum in Bristol. They had a small carousel you could ride on as well as Leo the Lion for photo ops. Unbeknownst to me, the Fire Museum and the Greek Heritage Museum are all in the same building, and our tour included the Fire Museum. I didn't inquire about the other. We had a nice time checking out all the different carousel animals in various stages of restoration.

Fun Day

Ethan had no school today so we had some fun. We went to the grocery store to see our friend and brought her some tulips from our yard. We cleaned up at home for a showing, had a "picnic" downstairs with a movie for lunch, and then headed out to the zoo where we saw two peacocks strutting their stuff. We also finally saw the porcupine come out of his cage, the lynx were pacing back and forth, and the tiger was right by the walkway so we got some good animal interaction. The sheep were also animated, and we saw the barn owl's dinner- dead mice on the floor of his cage. We brought a snack- a chocolate bunny- so we could eat his ears. We rode the carousel and we made a smashed penny for James. Then we met up w/ him for dinner as people were viewing our house, and came home in time for books and bed. Phew, what a day!
