Science Fair Prep
Ethan's school started a science fair this year. They gave us some Web sites to help with choosing a project. Once we had it selected, we started with the experiment to be sure we would be able to replicate it for the fair. After all that hard work, we needed an ice cream. WHAT? It is absolutely acceptable to have ice cream on a daily basis. And chocolate.
Pool time!
What? You don't really think two ice cream outings are enough for any week, do you? We also got to spend some time in the pool.

Cheese Head
Froyo is all well and good, but it's not Rich Farm. And whenever we go there, we have to send Pa a picture like this just to let him know we're thinking of him.

Bunnies playing space!
Ethan drew this at school. Pay special attention to the details! In his words, "They didn't have a spaceship, so they painted a
wall purple without wallpaper or permission. They used their stale
carrots to paint the wall purple. It was really sad that there were
stale carrots. They found an extra stale carrot that was really big and
they decided to use it as a jetpack because the big bunny was too big to
move himself on the moon because of the scientific weight loss on the
moon because he was 200 lbs and would lose 100 lbs according to
studies."

Stop at the Falls
It was so nice that Ethan and I stopped at the falls to try out his bubbles. I think he likes catching them more than he likes blowing them.

Farm Visit
We got to go see Gramps. We took some time to travel up the hill to find the tadpoles. We admired the spring flowers and the birds, as well as the start of Gramps's garden. We heard about his plans for growing this summer, and about all the things he's going to build in the barn to donate for charities to sell. Can't wait to go back and see how he's progressing.

Baseball
The weather wasn't great, but at least it wasn't a wash out! We went to a vintage baseball game in Litchfield planned by my colleague Liz. During one of the breaks, the team invited the kids to join in the fun, batting and catching. The rules were a bit different than they are today, and there were no gloves!

Little Free Library
We've admired Little Free Libraries in all sorts of places. We thought Southbury ought to have one, but never attempted to figure out how to make that happen. Lucky for us, the girl scouts at Ethan's school took it on! They constructed this lovely example right outside of the school. If you aren't familiar with the concept, check it out. There's even a map of locations.
In other news, Ethan told me about the classroom lizard. He said, "You know the kids who got to read with the anole? They actually saw it poop. I wish I could be there for that moment."

Froyo!
The Froyo World in town has been closed for eons. They had a sign on the door that said they would be closed for a few weeks, but it was really months. One day as we were headed into the plaza, we found out they were open again- which meant we had to go!

Weir Farm
I planned a cub scout outing for Ethan's den at Weir Farm. It is Connecticut's only national park. They did a junior ranger letterboxing activity (basically a scavenger hunt). The site is very interesting, it was a home for several generations of artists. The last was a sculptor, and his workshop has reproduction pieces in it that the kids were allowed to touch. They found it hilarious that they could touch the guy's butt. It was also a beautiful place, with tons of lilacs in bloom. I just wanted to stay there and smell them.

Bon Voyage, Liz!
Our friend Liz is leaving us! She took a new job, so we wanted to wish her well. Ethan, who shares a love of all things presidential with Liz, made her a lovely drawing of Abe Lincoln. I made her a narwhal tissue cozy. And I gift wrapped her desk. She molded my name tag in jello. We will miss you, Liz!!

Mother's Day
Hope all the mothers had a happy day. Ours was your average Sunday but I managed to both have lilacs (I lost them all yet again when we had to move) and convince Ethan to let me take his picture sniffing them. He also made me this lovely sidewalk chalk picture. Hopefully the trees will be a bit taller next year.

Q-Pon Day
We went to Quassy for their annual Q-Pon day. The weather was not so nice, which meant that there were very short lines! We got to ride on just about everything before we got to cold to stay any longer.

Teacher Appreciation
Ethan made this lovely key chain for his teacher from perler beads. He gave it to her with a Rich Farm gift certificate. He included his recommendations for the best flavors.
