Parades

Sunday Ethan marched in the Middlebury Memorial Day parade. We did not know what side of the lineup he would be on, and we sat on the wrong side of the road so we didn't really see him. We didn't hear much of him either as they had finished a song before they got to us and were taking a break.

Today the band marched in the Southbury Parade. This time we were on the right side AND got to hear them! Apologies for the poor quality of videos, the original files are too large to upload so I shrunk them. They don't look great but hopefully it didn't change the sound. After the parade they played the national anthem at a very lengthy memorial near the town hall.

Nature

This has nothing to do with Ethan except that I was determined to get pictures and videos so he could see when he got home. I was working from home today and looked out the dining room window. I saw the turkey perched on the rock behind the deck and thought it was funny, so I was going to take a picture. She looked about to jump, so I just took it out the dining room window. I underestimated what she was doing- she took off and I thought she was way too high to be landing on the deck railing. I went outside, and sure enough she had flown up on the roof. She strutted around a bit, preened and fluffed and just chilled for a while. James was working upstairs and saw me out the window and I told him what was going on. He came out and threw some corn under the bird feeder and she couldn't fly down fast enough.

This afternoon after we went to the library, Ethan and I stopped for a walk at Southford Falls. We saw a great blue heron and of course the Canadian geese, along with lots of spring flowers.

Concert Band Concert

Ethan's last concert of 9th grade! They always put the brass in the back but I got a few pictures where you can see his face. I made a few video clips, at least if you can't see him very well I'm pretty sure you can pick out the sound of the lone trombone! Next up, two Memorial Day parades.

Busy Week

We had a very musical week. The jazz band played Monday at the Board of Ed meeting, Tuesday we went to the Weird Al concert that E had gotten tickets for at Christmas, and then Wednesday we went to his jazz band concert. We are not much used to doing anything out of the house on weeknights anymore, so it was a pretty exhausting week. So, this morning we went for a hike at Nonnewaug Falls in Woodbury. It's not a long walk but it's very steep in some places. It's lovely once you get past the high voltage power lines. But then there's garbage. It's everywhere. There were the paper boxes from cans of seltzer and beer, the empty cans, people's socks, paper, plastic, just so much junk. I just don't understand why anyone would do that. And this is one of the parks that actually does have a trash can by the exit.
