Day 5: Louisville

 
We started our first morning in Louisville by visiting the information center. We got to have our pictures made with a wax Colonel Sanders. As we were looking around, a man drove this little buggy into the building. Pedaled might be the right word. He told Ethan he was welcome to climb up and have his picture taken, so he did. We got the lay of the land and a few Kentucky candies before we headed out to our next stop.
 
Our factory tour of the Louisville Slugger factory and museum was the next stop. The city has a free trolley, so we took advantage and rode it a few blocks. You couldn't miss the place, the world's largest baseball bat is right outside the door. We learned how they used to make them by hand with a lathe (there's one guy in the factory who can still do this) and how they do it now. We also saw some of the bats they are customizing for the pros. Ethan and James got to swing some bats, one was Mickey Mantle's. Ethan probably most enjoyed the life-sized statues of the ball players that he kept hiding behind. Fortunately he didn't do any damage.
 
We walked around the city a little after the factory tour. We came upon this limo and wished it was in NY so Metzner could rent it. It seemed to be affiliated with a hotel. We also saw this statue, and a few other things before we headed to a bbq place for lunch. That was followed by a visit to a park along the waterfront where we found a nice playground.
 
After the park, we decided to check out the science center. There was a big pipe thing to try to  build a way to get a ball into the tub. We did not figure it out. Ethan and James took a ride in the space capsule, and then Ethan and I crawled through a cave. After that was our private showing of an IMAX movie about Lewis and Clark which, amazing as it may seem, held Ethan's interest. It was not animated.
