On Tuesday, we went to a living history museum just outside of Indianapolis. It was a lot of fun. We started by visiting their Civil War area. Ethan explored the way soldiers lived in a tent, we went to see the cows, sheep, and chickens, and he spent a lot of time practicing Civil War medicine. That's a doctor's coat he's wearing. After that, we visited the hot air balloon area and Ethan used the model as a vegetable stand. We had some lunch and then took a ride in the real hot air balloon. It's tethered to the ground, otherwise I wouldn't have been caught doing that. It was scary enough, and he said the wind had died down but it sure felt awfully breezy up there. After that we visited a Native American tribe and a barn where we could pet animals and climb on wooden horses. We practiced lessons in a school room and headed out on the Oregon Trail in a covered wagon. 1500 schoolchildren visiting that day made for no stops in the gift shop or postcards here, but we had a long drive to Louisville when we left so it just got us on the road a little faster.
